Two Things I’ve Learned as a Missionary
1. This role is a sacrifice but a gift.
Moving from all things familiar, taking a large pay cut, missing
family & friends, and moving alone has been a challenge. I
do, however acknowledge that with almost all sacrifices you learn
something. I’ve learned that unfamiliarity can be exciting. Money
and materials just aren’t that dang important. Family &
friend relationships can get even stronger when distance is
added. Being alone forces independence and growth.
2. The world is a big place but with a lot of need.
Seeing a whole new side of the Earth is eye-opening to say the
least. The jump from DC/MD/VA to HONG KONG was so big that I now
feel empowered to make more jumps, see new places, and travel way
more. Seeing more of the world, however does mean you see the
needs of millions of people as well. Visiting the Philippines was
gut-wrenching, surprising, painful and powerful. I saw things I
didn’t understand and that were just not acceptable. Working for
ICM has taught me how huge of a difference a little effort can
make, and I’m honored to be a part of it and thankful to those of
you helping to make my part possible.
